Viber notification not disappearing from status bar

Viber's notification symbol (purple in color when your phone's internet connection is active and grey when it's inactive) could be seen in your phone's status bar even when you're not using viber.

Follow the below steps if you want to remove this notification:

  1. Open Viber and click on "More" at the bottom right corner of the screen.
  2. Choose Settings in the following menu.
  3. In the Settings menu, turn off the option"Show Viber status icon".

In some phones, you might have to try twice for this setting to get activated.

Android phone battery drained by Google services

Your smartphone's battery could have drained drastically, may be within 5 hours of charging it fully. And you're wondering what happened to your battery all of a sudden.

Don't panic! This happened to me when my phone's data package expired and there was nil balance in my mobile account. I didn't recharge my account immediately and the next day I saw a drastic drain in my battery. When I checked the battery usage, it showed that the maximum usage was by Google services.

[If you check the packages included in Google services, you can see "Network location" in it. This package is used by google to track your approximate location from time to time.]

And then I understood. When my phone's connection to internet was lost suddenly, my location data didn't reach google. So this app kept trying again and again to send the data that it intended to, but in vain.
This prevented my phone from sleeping for even a single second! Hence the battery drain.

The next day when I recharged my data pack, the battery usage by Google services reduced gradually and my phone functioned normally.

After fidgeting through my phone's settings for a while, I found out how to turn this app off.

Just turn off "Google's location service" under Settings->Personal->Location services

Or the simpler solution would be to turn off data traffic when your phone is unable to connect to the internet.

Hope your issue gets resolved too!

Tips to prevent your Smart phone battery from draining quickly

If you're new to smart phones, then you might be yelling the same thing as everyone else:
"My phone's battery is draining rapidly!"

Here, I'm going to give you a few tips to help your battery last a little longer.

  1. Turn off syncing in your phone. You can find this option under Settings->Personal->Accounts&Sync.

You can turn this off for all accounts on your phone or for each account that you desire. Once this is done you will not receive instant updates on that account, but you can turn it on any time that you want to check your mail or messages.

     2. Disable your phone's data traffic whenever you're not using it. You can do this through either of the following two options:
          i) Turn off Mobile Data under Settings->Wireless&Networks->Data usage

ii) Uncheck Data Enabled option under Settings->Wireless&Networks->More->MobileNetworks

    3. Keep in mind to turn off GPS, Bluetooth and Wifi when you're not using them.
  • GPS option can be found under Settings->Personal->Location services
  • Bluetooth and Wifi settings can be found under Settings->Wireless&Networks

    4. Your screen could drain most of your battery, so reduce the Brightness and keep awake time(Sleep option) of your screen.
You can find these settings under Settings->Device->Display.

    5. Avoid using live wallpapers which could eat up your battery.

    6. And the last one. If you're a person who could easily forget to turn on and off the above settings, you could install an app such as Power saver. These apps have the option to set a timer and the default settings to be activated on reaching a particular time everyday(such as when you go to bed!)
